Full Spectrum Doula

Prenatal, Labor, Birth and Postpartum

First of all, WTF is a Doula right?

By definition, a Doula is a woman, typically without formal obstetric training, who is employed to provide guidance and support to a pregnant woman during labor.

What is a Doula

A doula, also known as a birth companion, birth coach or post-birth supporter, is a trained, non-medical companion who supports a birthing woman by providing continuous care before, during, or after childbirth in the form of information, physical support, and emotional support.

Basically, we are here to rock your birth from start to finish. :-)

I am a full-spectrum Doula, meaning I offer everything from fertility to postpartum. Not sure what you need? Keep scrolling! You can learn more about my Doula education and certifications here.

Does my insurance cover Doula services?

Typically, no. Doula services are not covered by insurance and must be paid out of pocket. The type of Doula service you select will determine your terms of payment. However, I do my best to offer reasonable rates and payment plans for clients in need as I believe every mom deserves to have the best birth experience possible!

Keep in mind while having a doula may be an out-of-pocket expense for you, some insurance companies will cover some or all of the cost depending on your plan! Call your insurance company's benefits department to get details. You may have to pay your Doula fees first, get a detailed receipt and then submit a claim for reimbursement.

Thankfully, Doula services are starting to be covered by insurance and I know that some Medicaid patients are being definitely covered in the state of Florida. Please check with your insurance provider to see if you are covered.

Virtual and a la carte Doula services are not covered by insurance.

When should I hire a Doula?

You can hire a Doula from the moment you are trying to conceive. You can also hire a Doula if you have experienced a loss - this is a no cost service with me.

The sooner you hire a Doula, the better! Even if you are only looking for a birth Doula, or Postpartum Doula - the sooner we work with you the more prepared you will be. We are able to assist you better and cover a lot more early on. Doulas can be a valuable resource in many areas of becoming a parent - from fertility to even adoption. There is literally a type of Doula for everyone and every situation.

If you are in need of a combination of services, let me know! We can work out a custom Doula package just for you :-)

What is NOT included in doula support?

Doulas are not medical professionals, and the following tasks are not performed by doulas:

  • They do not perform clinical tasks such as vaginal exams or fetal heart monitoring
  • They do not give medical advice or diagnose conditions
  • They do not make decisions for the client (medical or otherwise)
  • They do not pressure the birthing person into certain choices just because that’s what they prefer
  • They do not take over the role of the partner
  • They do not catch the baby
  • They do not change shifts (although some doulas may call in their back-up after 12-24 hours)
